History

As per researchers, the temple was constructed in the 11th century, credited to King Dushalraja of the Parmar clan. Numerous inscriptions adorning the temple walls confirm its existence in the 12th century. According to legends, there used to be 108 temples in the vicinity earlier. Due to continuous attacks from foreign invaders, almost all of them have fallen into ruin. According to legends, a sage once visited the village, entrusting the care of his disciples to the villagers during his absence. Unfortunately, none of the villagers showed any concern except for a compassionate woman who took it upon herself to look after the disciples in his absence. Upon the sage's return, he discovered his disciples in a near-death state, which enraged him. He cursed the entire village, turning its inhabitants into stone due to their heartless nature. However, he offered the compassionate woman a chance to escape the curse by leaving the village without looking back. Ignoring his warning, her curiosity got the better of her, and as she glanced back, she too transformed into stone. A stone statue of the woman, frozen in the act of looking back, can still be found on the outskirts of the village, lending credibility to the local belief in the tale. Locals avoid staying in the village after sunset, fearing that anyone who remains past evening will suffer the same fate.
